Abstract
Magistrsko delo obravnava prevajanje osebnih lastnih imen in toponimov v dveh francoskih prevodih romana Na Drini ćuprija (Most na Drini) bosansko-hercegovskega avtorja Iva Andrića. V uvodu dela predstavimo avtorja, podamo ključne informacije o zgodovinskem in jezikovnem ozadju romana ter predstavimo življenje in delo obeh prevajalcev.

Title:Comparative analysis of the translation of personal names and toponyms in two French translations of Ivo Andrić’s novel The Bridge on the Drina
Abstract:
This master’s thesis examines the translation of personal names and toponyms in two French translations of Ivo Andrić’s Na Drini ćuprija (The Bridge on the Drina). After presenting the author, outlining the historical and linguistic context of the novel, and introducing the two translators, the study draws on a corpus of over 200 items extracted from the source text. Each item is analysed in its immediate textual context and compared with the corresponding renderings in the French translations by Georges Luciani (1956) and Pascale Delpech (1994). The thesis aims to provide a contrastive analysis of how these proper names are translated into French, taking into account that they often carry a significant cultural charge, with particular attention to what is preserved, adapted or lost in the process. The theoretical framework is based primarily on the work of Peter Newmark, complemented by the approaches of Vinay and Darbelnet, as well as other translation theorists. The empirical section compares the translation procedures used in the two French versions and provides a detailed analysis of approximately one hundred particularly representative cases. This analysis highlights the semantic and cultural implications of the translators’ choices. The conclusion revisits the initial hypotheses, assesses the extent to which they are confirmed or challenged, and discusses the broader translational and cultural implications of the findings.
