This thesis presents the development of a Linux kernel driver for a rotary encoder connected to a Raspberry Pi 4 Model B via GPIO. The driver integrates the device into the Linux input subsystem as a standard input unit, enabling detection of rotation and button press events. The goal is to demonstrate how a simple mechanical input device can be effectively supported at kernel level using modern, open-source development practices. The resulting solution is intended for educational and research use, and follows best practices for device driver implementation within the Linux kernel.
