This master's thesis presents the compositions performed at a comprehensive concert entitled Why Wouldn’t I Sing? The concert is designed around singing, one of the most basic forms of human expression. The focus is not only on the choir singers as the main performers but on the theme of singing. This theme can be found in the treasury of choral music across a wide variety of eras and genres, including Slovenian and foreign compositions, as well as sacred and secular works, both old and new. The Cantate Domino Project Choir was formed to perform works by Damijan Močnik, Fr. Hugolin Sattner, Jacobus Handel–Gallus, Johann Pachelbel, Vytautas Miškinis, Pavel Česnkokov, Josu Elberdin and Jan Triler. For the works by Moses Hogan and a composition by Anton Foerster, the Concordia Mengeš Chamber Choir, which has been operating under the direction of Tomas Mejias since its establishment in 2021, has also joined. Jan Triler's composition V zvenečem zraku was specially written for this occasion and was performed for the first time at the concert. The presentation of the performers is followed by an analysis of each composition, including a biography of the composer, text analysis, historical and structural analysis, and didactic approaches to the composition's performance itself.
