The aim of this diploma thesis was to determine the role of SFS (Slovenia Forest Service) within KEUPS (Commission for European footpaths in Slovenia). As part of KEUPS, SFS has certain duties and financial commitments. In order to perform these duties properly, several people have been appointed coordinators by the chairman of SFS. Their job is to coordinate the maintenance of European footpaths and hiking along the European footpaths in Slovenia. The required information was gathered by means of literature, 2 interviews and 11 questionnaires. The interviews were conducted with both the former and the current chairman of KEUPS. Out of 13 coordinators who received questionnaires regarding their work and their opinion on it, 11 have filled them out. The survey has shown that SFS is consistent in performing its dutiesand financial commitments. In order to operate better within KEUPS, SFS should improve the work of some of its coordinators and raise the funds allocated for the materials needed to maintain the European footpaths. Some coordinators are not motivated to do their voluntary work anymore, some are discontent with the way KEUPS operates, while an approximate third lack the time to work on the European footpaths due to their other job obligations. Approximately one third of the coordinators are not thoroughly acquainted withthe way KEUPS functions and are particularly unfamiliar with the role of other organizations within KEUPS. An appropriate measure would be to replace the coordinators who are not motivated, are displeased with the way KEUPS operates, or are too stressed out in their jobs, with other employees of SFS who are interested in hiking. The coordinators who are not sufficiently familiar with the KEUPS activities should broaden their knowledge.
