The topic of this BA project thesis is a system of bicycle locking. The research of this topic began with
the observation of flaws concerning the offer of bicycle locks and the possibilities of bicycle locking.
This research looks into bicycles, the ways of using bicycles and the reasons for using them, as
well as the ways of bicycle parking and locking, which are the main components of bicycle usage.
Moreover, the most common methods of bicycle stealing and the reasons for it have been identified,
as well as the locking techniques and the existing bicycle lock and parking space solutions.
The initial analysis suggested a more rational solution when it comes to a parking system, and not to
a bicycle lock, because the analysis mostly focused on the parking spaces, the ways of using bicycles,
and the user experience compared to the current situation in the city of Ljubljana and the examples of
good practice around the world.
The starting points revealed important or interesting problems or elements of the processes of
bicycle parking and locking. The basic starting point is the anti-theft protection, while the other
starting points include space efficiency, integration and/or visuality, quick and simple locking, the
possibility of being independent of the personal bicycle lock and other services.
The final product is a parking station with 10 parking boxes that offer a complete anti-theft and
external impacts protection for bicycles and other additional items for an extended period of time.
The bicycle is stored vertically, which makes this parking station more space efficient when compared
to other parking stations.
