The aim of this thesis is to analyse The Book of Her Life by Saint Teresa of Ávila from a narratological and stylistic perspective, with particular emphasis on the narrator of the book, all in the context of autobiography. The first section presents an overview of the autobiographical genre, including its definitions and historical development. The second part introduces key concepts and terminology from narratological studies. The focus then shifts to the life and works of Saint Teresa, with a special emphasis on her first book, commonly translated to English as The Book of Her Life. Drawing on the concepts explained in the theoretical part, various autobiographical and narratological aspects are identified and defined, such as the use of the grammatical person, the autobiographical pact, the narrator, and the text’s addressees. The final chapter provides insights into the literary style and the rhetorical strategies employed in the text.
