The thesis Illuminated psalter as learning aid highlights the importance of illuminated psalters as learning aids during the Carolingian period. The primary concern in this context is whether and how illuminated psalters can contribute to achieving educational goals in the mentioned period. To support the search for an answer, there are firstly presented the changes in the field of education that occurred during the reign of Charlemagne. In connection whit this, there are highlighted key characteristics of the Carolingian Renaissance as the culture favorable to education and the role of monasteries in this context. The pursuit of the educational potential of illuminations focuses on one of the key works of Carolingian art, the Utrecht Psalter. The manuscript and its illustrations are briefly presented and related to the meaning of the images, which is important from the learning perspective.
