Sexual abuse remains a significant issue in modern society and is one of the most complex and, above all, taboo topics. The lack of awareness of its consequences, misunderstanding, and especially insufficient knowledge in this area, contribute to the fact that child sexual abuse is often overlooked or even minimized. In my thesis, I emphasized the importance of the role of counselors in educational institutions, as children most often disclose sexual abuse in these settings. In the theoretical part, I focused on the issue of sexual abuse and its consequences. I described the role of the counseling service in a student dormitory when sexual abuse is disclosed and briefly touched on the legislation in this area.
The case study with a self-evaluation of my own counseling experience illustrates the consequences of childhood sexual abuse and their impact on the life of an adolescent. It also highlights the importance of a sense of safety and acceptance from the person to whom the sexual abuse is disclosed, as well as the influence of family members' reactions on the victim. The case study demonstrates how sexual abuse affects the decision to move into a student dormitory and helps us understand the victim's experiences during legal proceedings.
