This thesis explores the packaging of cosmetic products, which represents a key element not only in protecting the content, but also in shaping the user experience and marketing appeal. In the introductory part, we presented basic concepts, the classification of cosmetic packaging, its components, and the most commonly used materials. We also emphasized the importance of safety, functionality, and aesthetic characteristics of packaging in the cosmetics industry.
The aim of the research was to gather and then systematically analyze the packaging of selected cosmetic products available on the Slovenian market. The sample included 180 products from various categories, randomly selected in two major drugstores. For each product, we recorded key packaging parameters, including the type of container, volume, material, presence of secondary packaging, closure, applicator, and any tamper-evident protection.
The collected data were processed using Microsoft Excel, where we calculated the proportions of individual categories and presented them in tables and charts. We found that plastic was the most commonly used material, while containers with a narrow neck were the most prevalent. The packaging was generally functionally adapted to the type of product – for example, spray dispensers for sun protection products and glass containers for nail polish. Secondary packaging was present mainly in products where greater protection or additional space for labelling was required.
The research confirmed that packaging is designed deliberately and in accordance with the intended use. We also identified opportunities for further research, particularly in the field of sustainable materials and the relationship between packaging design and perceived product quality among consumers.
