Introduction: Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women. Different treatments methods help to cure patients. Breast cancer patients are often treated with radiotherapy, which provides good local control of the disease, control of toxicity to healthy organs and contributes to longer patient survival. Alongside the treatment, the quality of life of the patients, their physical and psychological well-being, are also important. Purpose: The purpose of this master thesis is to describe and understand the criteria patient reported outcomes measures (PROMs) and to determine what PROMs are by reviewing different literature. And by doing so, to explore the meaning and recognition of this measurement instrument. To study its use and to learn about its prevalence of use in breast cancer patients. Methods: Descriptive method and systematic literature review were used. The sources were mainly scientific articles, abstracts from proceedings and foreign research. The literature was searched using various databases, such as the Digital Library of Slovenia, the Digital Library of the University of Ljubljana, COBBIS, Google Scholar, Science Direct, Pub Med, Springer Link. Results: For the presentation of results, we categorized the reviewed literature into sections and divided them into three different tables. The tables show the use of questionnaires on patients' quality of life compared to the side effects of radiation, according to the different fractionation, the suitability of questionnaires in breast radiotherapy. Discussion: The questionnaires and the reported symptoms made it easier for the patients to point out the changes that had happened to them. First observed changes in the quality of life of patients occur at the time of diagnosis and last for several weeks after the completion of treatment. Patients find it more difficult to cope with the diagnosis and the course of the disease, they have reduced mental and physical capability, they have a poorer self-image, and they also notice many side effects of the radiation treatments. With the development of radiation techniques and different radiation methods, the use of partial breast radiation is becoming more and more widespread. When irradiating only part of the breast, patients experience a better quality of life. With radiation treatments that involve the additional boost, more changes occur in the breast, which are more difficult for patients to accept. Research has shown that after one year following the end of treatment, patients become accustomed to their condition. Conclusion: Regardless of radiation technique and dose regime used in treatment, we must also consider quality of life. The significance of radiation side effects and psychological well-being in the treatment of breast cancer patients can be assessed in various ways, one of which may be the PROMs questionnaire.
