Introduction: As the world population grows and life expectancy increases, so does the number of older adults. They engage in various occupations daily, including driving a motor vehicle. Older driver rehabilitation makes it possible to maintain and improve driving skills and extend the driving license. This is, in Slovenia and abroad, done by specially trained occupational therapists in specially trained teams. Purpose: The purpose of the thesis is to determine the role of the occupational therapist in older driver rehabilitation Methods: A literature review was conducted. We searched for literature in three databases: PubMed, MEDLINE and Web of Science. We used keywords related to occupational therapy and older driver rehabilitation. The following inclusion criteria were used to select the articles: the articles had to be scientific and in English, they had to include a population of older drivers over the age of 65, the article had to examine the role of occupational therapy in older driver rehabilitation, and they had to be published after 2014. The collected articles were then analyzed descriptively and substantively and evaluated in terms of relevance. Results: The final analysis included 11 articles, nine of which were published in occupational therapy journals, one in journals related to geriatrics and one in a medical journal. The articles described the different roles that occupational therapists play in older adult driving rehabilitation through all stages of occupational therapy process. Discussion and conclusion: Occupational therapy plays an important role in older driver rehabilitation. Older adults are included in the treatment, and their driving ability and roadway safety are assessed. Occupational therapists abroad participate in the inclusion of older drivers in driving rehabilitation as well as in the implementation of the treatment, which is also practiced in Slovenia. Occupational therapists abroad have the role of an assessor of driving ability, a planner of treatments and interventions to improve driving of a motor vehicle, and often the main provider of comprehensive treatment. In Slovenia, the role of occupational therapists is smaller compared to abroad, as they work only in the fields of assessment of driving characteristics and vehicle adaptation, which is only a small part of the role of occupational therapists abroad.
