The purpose of this master's thesis was to create a functional three-layer, insulating, and WPC (wood-plastic composite) board made from shavings. We first produced single-layer boards from individual wood types (spruce and beech), and based on the properties of these boards, we then made single-layer boards with mixed shavings structure. Considering these properties, we finally created two types of three-layer boards - one with mixed wood shavings in the layers and another with one wood type per layer. The results confirmed that it is possible to make boards from wood shavings that exceed the mechanical property standards for P2 furniture boards. The best properties were observed in the three-layer boards, where each layer was made from a single wood type, though the mixed-layer boards were also usable. The greatest weakness of the manufactured boards was the thickness swelling upon water absorption, but this could likely be improved by increasing the adhesive content and adding hydrophobic agent.
