The author focuses on the research question of how the conditions of EU membership affect democratization in the Republic of Montenegro. The author began researching the topic with a detailed overview of the reports prepared by the European Commission for the EU accession process for Montenegro since 2010. The review of the reports is supplemented by a detailed review of secondary literature on parliamentarism, democratization and democracy, which completes the theoretical framework. In the first part of the master’s thesis, the author presents a historical overview of key events in Montenegro, focusing on events between 1990 and 2010, when the country became a candidate for membership of the European Union. The second part is devoted to the theoretical framework, focusing on the concept of democracy and the concept of democratization in the context of the EU and in the context of the conditions of EU membership. In the last part of his master's thesis, the author applies the latter to a detailed analysis of the impact of the conditions for EU membership on the case of Montenegro. The master's thesis concludes with a summary of the findings made during the research period.
