The author focuses on the research of journalistic reporting on the events that led to the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1990, in the Slovenian newspaper Delo and the weekly Mladina. The author began researching the topic by reviewing the aforementioned newspapers, focusing on the extent of the coverage of events in the Soviet Union, the events of which readers were informed, how up-to-date the reporting was, and whether Delo and Mladina had their correspondents in the SZ itself. The author begins his master’s thesis with a general outline of the Soviet Union and its events at the turn of the 1980s and 1990s, as well as an overview of correspondences for the aforementioned newspaper and weekly from the SZ during that period. The following chronologically presents the reporting of events by individual republics of the SZ, where special attention is paid to the events that led to the dissolution of the SZ.
