Euthanasia or assisted suicide is currently not legal in Slovenia but there has been a lot of discussion lately on how to deal with this topic. We can expect some major changes in the future about euthanasia, especially since more than half of voters in Slovenia voted for the bill that would legalise help with voluntary ending of life. When talking about the topic of euthanasia, when arguments are made for and against, political parties, field of medical professionals and religious groups seem to have the most to say. In my thesis I also present other major actors in this debate and their arguments for and against euthanasia and I am also interested if the question of euthanasia is still a religious question or just moral and ethical question. While slovenian public supports the legislation and regulation of euthanasia, the Roman Catholic Church (RCC) opposes euthnasia and one of the research questions in the thesis relates to a research about views on euthanasia and religious (non)affiliation. The research shows that quite a large number of those who belong to Roman Catholic Church do not necessarily agree with the opinions of the Church on the topic of euthanasia and that despite their religious affiliation they decide for themselves when it comes to the topic of euthanasia. Their personal opinion may be different as that of their religion and in our society today there is more focus on the autonomous believer that makes their own choices about their life. In this thesis all the actors in this discussion about euthanasia agree on the importance and developement of palliative care and even suggest it as a solution and alternative to euthanasia.
