Within the framework of the master's thesis entitled Design of the check dam in the Savinja river basin, the topic of check dam design on torrential catchments is discussed. The theoretical foundations necessary for the comprehensive design of torrential check dams are presented.
Torrential check dams are designed in the specific example of the Trnava stream, which is a typical torrential tributary of the Savinja River in the Upper Savinja Valley. For the Trnava catchment area, the thesis calculates the average annual potential sediment supply using various methods and checks the possibility of debris flows occurrence and estimates their magnitude. A hydrological model was set up for this area to determine the design discharges, which were used to design the spillway and other elements of the check dams.
In the end, according to the theoretical starting points and the results obtained, the check dams were positioned in the space. At the same time, other water management measures were planned, which comprehensively regulated the stream section under consideration. The proposed measures reduce the flood risk of the area.
