Abstract
When it comes to research regarding theories of language learning, papers seem to be largely limited to purely theoretical discussions of theoretical concepts, without providing suggestions for applying said theories in practice. This is why it can be difficult for teachers to translate the principles discussed in these theories to practice. This thesis aims to provide not just the presentation of several theories of language learning, but also their practical implications when it comes to teaching foreign languages. Specifically, it covers Stephen Krashen’s Monitor Model, John Schumann’s Acculturation and Michael Long’s Interaction Hypothesis. The first part of the thesis features a comprehensive overview of literature regarding these three theories, while the second part focuses on their practical application. This is done by first discussing some of their practical applications, then by analyzing coursebooks and how these theories are exhibited in individual classroom activities, and finally by providing specially designed classroom activities that reflect the theories. It is found that some aspects of certain theories of language learning are more frequently represented in classroom activities and coursebooks than others. This is most likely due to the nature of these theories and the fact that some of their principles cannot be represented in individual activities. This thesis can prove to be useful not just as a guidebook for teachers looking to bridge the gap between their theoretical knowledge and practice, but also as the basis for further research, that can include a broader scope and additional theories.

Title:Praktične odslikave izbranih teorij učenja jezikov
Abstract:
Acculturation) Johna Schumanna in na Interakcijsko hipotezo (ang. Interaction Hypothesis) Michaela Longa.
