Ottoman incursions is to study the defence and defence organisation of the Slovene monasteries and
factors influencing them. The subject is studied on the example of four Slovene monasteries from two
monk orders: Cistercian monasteries Stična and Kostanjevica na Krki and Cartesian monasteries Žiče
and Pleterje. In the thesis I tried to take into account all the main factors which affected the defence:
The rules of both orders and what do they say about danger, the problems in both orders at the time and
monastery life during the incursions in each of the monasteries, the effects on the monastery economy,
monastery defence structures and finally, how monasteries where armed and how was defence
organised.
