The subject of this work is the geotechnical analysis of the Pradisjol dry retention basin embankment, whose function will be to improve flood safety in the Badaševice catchment area in the Municipality of Koper. The aim of the work was to carry out laboratory tests on soil samples from the area of the retention basin, to compare the results with archived field and laboratory tests, to determine the soil composition and material parameters and to carry out a geotechnical analysis of the structure.
As part of the laboratory investigations, we carried out soil classification, compressibility and permeability tests on samples from the area of the retention basin. On the basis of these tests and by comparing the results with archive data, the mechanical properties of the soils were determined, which are decisive for the definition of the soil model, and a geotechnical analysis of the structure was carried out. This analysis included the definition of the soil model, the calculation of the settlements and consolidation of the foundation soils and the evaluation of the stability of the retention embankment.
The geotechnical analyses confirmed the suitability of the proposed design for the retention embankment. The ground settlement and consolidation analysis, performed with Settle3D software, showed moderate settlements and a satisfactory consolidation progression. The stability analysis carried out with the Slide2 software showed adequate safety under static conditions and in seismic events.
