Film is a medium that can be used to visually tell stories and convey various messages. By setting up the film set, moving the cameras, and directing the actors, film directors not only create an understandable linear narrative but also embed meanings for the audience. Also, film directors have the creative power to depict society from the perspectives of different social groups through films. Access to media culture enables members of these groups to represent their own social struggles and discourses. For instance, Black American artists, directors and musicians use media to portray violence and oppression of black Americans in contemporary American society. The purpose of my thesis is to explore how the situation of Black Americans in modern American society is portrayed on the screen through the films Pass Over and Get Out.
