The thesis aimed to create intertextual content that would contribute to the preservation of intangible cultural heritage. The thesis includes an analysis of Slovenian mythology to create 3D-modelled and animated mythological creatures for augmented reality.
The theoretical part deals with three main areas. The first chapter covers augmented reality with a focus on mobile augmented reality solutions. The second chapter focuses on intangible cultural heritage and presents an analysis of Slavic mythology in the Slovenian territory, where the main source of literature is the book "Supernatural Beings from Slovenian Myth and Folktale" by Monika Kropej.
In the experimental part, we used a tablet and a laptop, as well as Procreate for illustration, Blender for 3D modelling and Unity for embedding 3D models in augmented reality. The work process involved many steps. We started with a material analysis of the book and sketching of Škopnik, the soul of dead children and the Doghead, considering their descriptions and characteristics. Based on the sketches, we illustrated, and 3D modelled the characters. The penultimate step was to animate their characteristic movement to best interpret the written descriptions and considering our interpretation. We finished the practical work with three separate 3D animated models, which we put in augmented reality with a focus on mobile phone use. The main purpose was achieved by rendering animations of Škopnik, the soul of dead children and the Doghead from Slovenian Mythology, which are played back on mobile devices using augmented reality technologies.
