Introduction: Figure skating is a popular occupation that offers skaters relaxation, enjoyment, and pleasure. While skating, different movements such as turns, pirouettes and jumps are performed. In addition, skating also contributes to improving physical flexibility, reducing stress and improving your mood. Occupation in occupational therapy means that it brings joy and meaning to the user. Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the occupational aspects of skating, focusing on the personal significance, motivations, and barriers experienced by individuals engaged in figure skating. Methods: A qualitative research approach was employed to collect data through semi-structured interviews. Results: The research participants described skating as an extremely important occupation that still evokes pleasant feelings. They started skating at an early age by enrolling in a skating course. The incentives for staying in the activity are personal progress and social support from friends. However, obstacles to this activity include self-esteem problems, injuries, school demands and psychological crises. Through the activity, skaters gain a variety of positive personality traits. Skating affects their physical and mental well-being as well as contributes to relaxation and stress reduction. In addition, skating also enables the development of a social network, with family, friends, coaches and the Skating Association of Slovenia being mentioned as a source of support. The reasons for stopping this activity were various injuries and fatigue. The motivation to return was the joy of the sport. Discussion and conclusion: Skaters acquire motor and cognitive skills through performing the occupation. The activity helps them lose track of time and worries, providing a sense of empowerment. Skating also has positive effects on health. Skaters choose this occupation because it offers a unique experience of self-expression, creativity, and emotional release.
