The thesis focuses on the impact of housing policy on the availability of suitable
housing for young people. Housing policy is a key factor in ensuring quality, suitable
and affordable housing for all residents, especially young people. The aim of the thesis
is to present and explain the impact of housing policy and to present the problems that
young people face when looking for a suitable and affordable apartment in Slovenia
with the help of answers to research questions. In the empirical part, an interview was
conducted with the director general of the Directorate for Housing from the Ministry of
Labour, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities (MDDSZ) and with the Youth
Council of Slovenia. Answers to the research questions will be obtained through the
two interviews. The purpose of both interviews is also to gain an insight into housing
policy from the professional field and to compare the two views on this topic. During
the writing of the thesis, data acquisition and research, it was established that the
housing policy in Slovenia was neglected for a long time, which is also visible in
practice. Young people currently have a lot of problems in getting their own apartment,
because the market does not allow them to do so due to the lack of suitable apartments
at an affordable price. The challenges that young people face are primarily financially
difficult housing, limited access to credit, insufficient rental housing, insufficient student
beds and inadequate public transport. The thesis will contribute to the transmission of
information about the current issues in the youth market regarding housing policy and
will contribute to raising awareness among the general public about the importance of
this issue. This will encourage dialogue and discussions on current issues, resulting in
greater understanding between experts and the lay public.
