The thesis entitled "Reporting of the Newspaper Glasilo Slovenske narodne podporne jednote about the Homeland in 1912" examines how the mentioned newspaper, which was produced in the USA and was a newspaper for American Slovenes, dealt with the homeland and reported
on it in the year 1912. The thesis explores various topics, especially those that were most
reported on regarding the homeland. Additionally, the thesis investigates how these topics touched upon the Slovenian ethical space, how they reported on the homeland, and how
immigrants in the USA viewed it. Since the research focused on the reporting of a specific newspaper in a particular year, the main source of the study was the aforementioned newspaper. I also used some other newspapers from the same year in Slovenia and literature related to that time period. The research results showed that Glasilo reported on numerous topics, and some of these themes are interconnected. This is particularly true for alcohol, which was a significant theme of that time due to various anti-alcohol movements that were becoming stronger both in the USA and in Slovenia. Because of this, topics such as death, murders, property destruction, and similar issues merge with articles about alcohol. The articles, while less sensationalistic than today, vary in the depth of coverage, depending on how significant a particular theme was at that time. In the eyes of emigrants, the homeland, which was then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, was considered backward. In general, they blamed Austria for their departure to the USA.
