The increasing demand for health services, driven by advances in medical technology and an aging population, poses a major challenge to health systems. The aim of the master thesis was to automatically transfer medical device measurement data from the patient's home environment to healthcare systems for the purpose of remote patient monitoring. The proposed solution involves the development of an IoT gateway that interfaces with BLE smart medical devices and transmits the data over an internet network. Key challenges such as secure data transmission, standardization of communication and ease of use for elderly and chronic patients have been addressed. We have examined the field to identify common problems and gaps. We went on to analyze the requirements, based on which we developed an implementation plan. In line with the plan, we built a prototype of the gateway device. Through a systematic evaluation, we have demonstrated the solution meets the defined functional and non-functional requirements. The solution reduces the need for manual data entry, improves the experience of the remote patient monitoring service and relieves the burden on healthcare staff.
