Today, we are witnessing more and more remarkable societal changes in the understanding and acceptance of sexual orientation and gender identity. One of the most important changes in modern society is certainly the struggle for the rights, equality and acceptance of LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) people and communities.
The aim of this diploma thesis was to investigate and analyse the attitudes of educators towards the LGBT community and to find out how LGBT issues are addressed in Slovenian kindergartens. Using a questionnaire, we collected data from preschool teachers from various public kindergartens in the Osrednjeslovenska region.
In the first part of the diploma thesis we described and explained the concepts related to the LGBT community and their importance in the educational process. We also examined the existing research on the topic and presented the importance of including such topics in the educational environment.
In the following, we present the results and analysis of the data obtained from the questionnaire on the attitudes and willingness of preschool teachers to address issues of the LGBT community and the ways in which they integrate this type of content into their activities. In the final part of the diploma thesis, we summarise the main findings of the survey and highlight the importance of awareness-raising, training and support for teachers in addressing LGBT issues in kindergartens.
