In the past biocidal products were mainly used to improve the natural durability of the wood. Today we want to use environmentally friendly solutions for these purposes. Among these solution we can select the water wax emulsions. In this respective study, we used a montan wax emulsion and emulsion of synthetic polyethylene waxes. We impregnated the samples of beech, spruce and Scotch pine with selected wax emulsion. Impregnated samples were exposed to liquid water and water vapour and water uptake was gravimetrically determined. Part of the specimens were used for tenziometer testing. The results on these three types of wood demonstrate that aqueous emulsion of waxes have a positive impact on the sorption properties of wood what resulted in improved performance.
