Mizarstvo Vidmar d.o.o., a furniture production company whose beginnings date back to the late 1970s, has grown from a craft-based workshop into a semi-mass, semi-industrial furniture manufacturer. The company has been faced with the challenging issue of monitoring the supplies of materials, semi-finished products and finished products as a result of business expansion. Consequently, there has been a lack of information about the status of individual orders, particularly in terms of the materials needed to complete the order. Also, undersized warehouse facilities have been significantly hampering smooth business running. The company's management has therefore decided to invest in new warehouse facilities and in a modern materials management information system. The objective of our research has been to identify and select the optimum materials management information system. Our selection has been based on the multi-criteria decision model DEX, and by using the software tool DEXi. Nine information systems were analysed based on the data collected by the questionnaire that was submitted to the relevant information system providers. The three information systems were assessed as very acceptable, but after a detailed analysis a slight advantage was given to the information system Datastudio-Proizvodnja developed by Datastudio, d.o.o.
