My thesis is a historical review of the integration of refugees and immigrants into Slovenian society and the educational system. I am interested in the reaction of the Slovenes and the newly formed state of Slovenia to the arrival of refugees from the former common state and how the official attitude of the state towards immigrants and immigration changed upon joining the European Union. I describe and compare how education was conducted in refugee primary schools and how the state and civil society reacted then and how the state reacted today when we accepted refugees from Ukraine.
The diploma thesis is set theoretically and indirectly also empirically, as it is based on sources that report an actual event. With the help of the analytical method, I used already written literature on the existing topic. I relied on sources and literature that dealt with current events, without a great distance in time.
