Abstract
Izdelanim lahkim panelnim sistemom smo določili površinsko težo, upogibno trdnost in tlačno trdnost. Kot najprimernejši sistem za izdelavo sredice smo izbrali utorjenje oziroma t.i. sistem kerf, pri katerem smo ugotovili najboljše mehanske lastnosti in največjo stopnjo prilagodljivosti.

Title:Use of beech for lightweight panel systems
Abstract:
Light-weight panel systems consist of three layers, namely two load bearing surface layers, and a core with an insulation role and resistance against shear loads. From mechanical perspective high strength materials are chosen for the surface layer, while low weight materials are selected for the core. In our research, we decided to make a light-weight panel system made from beech wood (Fagus Sylvatica), to show that it is possible to make light-weight system from high density material, that could be used for furniture and construction purposes. For the manufacturing of plywood, 1,25 mm thin beech veneer was used, while for bonding MUF resin was used. Six different core systems were tested. The resulting light-weight panel systems were tested for bending and compression strength as well as for the weight/surface ratio. The selection of the most appropriate core system was based on the simplicity of production and flexibility as well as on determined properties. As the most appropriate system, the so called kerf system, was then selected for the production of the final light-weight panel system.
