Work accidents in forest are very common. Forestry is one of the most risky activities as well in the world as in Slovenia, where there is never enough safety at work. By comparison of two longer periods (1984 - 1992 and 1993 - 2005) they analysed when, to whom and why accidents occurred, what were their consequences and what caused them. In 1993 Forest Act came into force and brought a lot of novelties. The number of employees in forestry companies has been on decrease throughout the whole period from 1984 to 2005. The results show the decrease in care for protection of worker before accidents. The main indicators of safety at work (frequency, severity) are much higher after 1993 compared to the previous period. Measurements for decreasing the number of accidents should be directed into education of both younger and older workers, additional education of employers and supervisors. Warnings about dangers of working in the forest should be more frequent, the control over forestry companies should be increased and the knowledge of all workers about safety at work should be examined.
