In this master's thesis, I describe the design and construction of a high-power single-phase
controlled current source with a programmable periodic reference waveform and numerous
protective functionalities. The device was developed based on a known desired current
waveform for a specific known inductive load. These previously known operating conditions
are what the device's design is based on and entail the used design procedures.
Thus, in the introductory part of this thesis, the purpose of the device is described, and a basic
overview of the design is provided. This is followed by the process of selecting and sizing
various device components by making use of various design tools and software packages.
Key results and outcomes in the final application of the device are provided at the end.
