Abstract

Title:
Concentration in students of the Faculty of sports
Abstract:
The aim of this Master's thesis was to determine whether there are any differences in the level of concentration between different groups of students at the Faculty of Sports. In sports psychology, concentration is described as separate or divided attention, where athletes focus on a certain surrounding or external event and/or psychological or internal stimulus to which they deliberately give their attention. In sports, the aforementioned cognitive and psychological ability is crucial in maintaining sports form and achieving top results. 297 subjects, active undergraduate and postgraduate students of the Faculty of Sports (approx. 22 years +/- 2 years), of which 157 men (52.86%) and 140 women (47.14%) were included in this research. For the purpose of the research, all subjects filled out a revised d2-R concentration test. Their task was to mark only those symbols that matched the description (containing ''d'' and II above or below it). The solving time was limited. After the testing was carried out, a manual check of incorrectly marked symbols and a calculation of the concentration level was performed. After analyzing the data in the SPSS program, the results showed that there were no statistically significant differences in the level of concentration between athletes who played in individual sports and athletes who played in team sports separately by quartiles (p = 0.680-0.820 ) and in the total level of concentration (p = 0.887). We did not find statistically significant differences between men and women in the level of concentration separately by quartiles (p = 0.057-0.217) and in the total level of concentration (p = 0.112). We did not find statistically significant differences in the level of concentration between the amateur and top level of competition separately by quartiles (p = 0.385-0.880) and in the total level of concentration (p = 0.624). The results did show that students in the first year of undergraduate studies have a statistically significantly worse level of concentration than students in the second year (+6 points, p = 0.000) and the third year of undergraduate studies (+5 points, p = 0.002) and the first year postgraduate studies (+4 points, p = 0.046).
