Introduction: The health-promoting lifestyle of students is an important determinant of health status and has been the subject of numerous research for many years. From the point of view of research and planning concrete measures for its improvement, we can help students make many decisions in adapting to the changes brought by student life. Purpose: The purpose of the master’s thesis is to determine the lifestyle of students from six selected faculties of the University of Ljubljana. We also want to determine the impact of various structural and behavioural determinants on lifestyle choices and examine the needs of students for health education. Methods: The descriptive method was used to review the scientific and professional literature, and the quantitative method of research was used to obtain the data. We conducted a questionnaire survey. Variables and ratios were analyzed using the hi-square test, the Mann-Whitney test, and Spearman's rank correlation coefficient, using Wilcoxon's pre-marked rank test for one sample. Results: We found that the lifestyle of students was assessed as relatively good, which is reflected in a good (53. 6 % of students) or very good (23. 6 % of students) self-assessment of overall health. It is better in the first year (p = 0. 016). For individual determinants, there are deviations from the recommended guidelines for choosing a healthy lifestyle. It is a combination of the simultaneous and interplay of several variables. There are statistically significant differences (p < 0. 05) between genders and between faculties. Students' social status and mental health are negatively correlated (p = -0. 149). Study-related workloads cause feelings of tension, stress and pressure in 92. 5 % of students. The results show the impact on students’ healthy lifestyle choices from their immediate and wider environment. Discussion and conclusion: The study found that the lifestyle of the students was comparable to the results of similar studies in the literature. Investments at all levels of the individual and society are needed when planning interventions in the field of strengthening and maintaining student health. It is important to involve experts from different disciplines and to strengthen cooperation between different departments. The active role of students is important. In the future, it would make sense to extend the survey to all students in the Slovene area, the added value would be to monitor students throughout their years of study and to consider a different form of the questionnaire.
