'Acquisition of television rights for broadcasts of Slovenian national team matches: a
comparison between RTV and Sportklub' is a master thesis, the core of which was to find out
why some of the matches of our national teams and players are broadcast on public television,
while others are not. I was also interested in how it is possible that certain national team matches
from major competitions are broadcast on Sportklub, despite the fact that it does not have
sufficient coverage. In the theoretical part, I touched upon concepts such as commercialisation
and globalisation of sport, I elaborated on the mission of public television in contrast to
commercial ones, and I presented the development of television rights and media in general
through literature. In the empirical part, I conducted interviews, the analysis of which answered
the research questions. I found that the acquisition of television rights is a complicated and
complex process, public television is at the mercy of the market and Agencija za
komunikacijska omrežja has its hands tied many times. The assignment is certainly a good basis
for further research in the field of television rights, in particular the rights for Slovenian national
team matches.
