This master's thesis aims to study the quality of life of the elderly at home and to show what role their relatives play in this process. The theoretical part of the study presents domestic and foreign literature in the field of aging. The theoretical part relates to the research that follows in the empirical part. The empirical part consists of research based on a quantitative work method; I collected data using a survey. It is shown what kind of difficulties and challenges relatives face in ensuring a quality of life for elderly family members. Based on a survey, which included a sample of forty-four individuals from Kočevje who help provide quality life to their aging relatives, I confirmed one and rejected three hypotheses. The hypothesis "Intergenerational cooperation has a positive impact on the elderly's quality of life" is confirmed in the study. The hypotheses "Older people have living space that enables spending quality time at home," "The local community only raises public awareness of activities for older people through online media," and "The most common problem in caring for an elderly relative is lack of time and knowledge about home care" are rejected based on the survey. The research has value for the municipality of Kočevje, as it explores and highlights the importance and role of relatives in ensuring quality of life for the elderly inhabitants. The research also relates to the municipality, outlining its role in ensuring the elderly lead a quality life.
