In my thesis entitled »The policy of compulsory vaccination of children in Slovenia« I aim to present the political regulation of childhood vaccination in Slovenia, as well as the role and influence of political actors in this field. I will also touch upon alternative options for vaccination. In the thesis, I will outline why we would like to ensure that child vaccination is based on voluntary decisions by parents.
In this thesis, I will describe the main reasons given by parents who doubt vaccination and the procedures that parents follow if they decide not to vaccinate their children, despite the fact that it is required by law.
Are vaccines really the only way of protecting against infectious diseases, or are they primarily a dangerous and ineffective method, and even a source of profit for some companies at the expense of people's healht? Where are the ethics and morality here? The opportunities for change lie with both governmental and non-governmental organisations and with individuals who want freedom of choice and the right to bodily integrity.
