This master thesis analyses the workings of People's Republic of China in Central and Eastern Europe in context of the 17 + 1 cooperation through the framework of Bourdieu’s sociology and symbolic violence. PRC acquired its symbolic power through writings on »The Rise of China« which gave it the pedigree of an »economic miracle maker«. The Chinese government through symbolic domination gave a new definition to the region of Central and Eastern Europe, created new physical, as well as cognitive spaces where the location and time of agents’ expression is designated in advance. The workings of symbolic power were visible in intercultural exchanges as is the 17 + 1 think tank network and youth cooperation. The peak of Chinese symbolic power in the region was between 2012 and 2015. Afterwards interest in the cooperation began to vain due to the USA's refocusing on the region and due to the dissatisfaction with the results of cooperation.
