The thesis deals with the re-use of abandoned industrial areas on the sea coast of Rijeka. These surfaces are mostly inaccessible and represent a physical barrier between the city and the sea, which is the central issue of the thesis. The aim is to create a comprehensive strategy of open public spaces in the former industrial zone, considering the historical and architectural characteristics of the area. The demolition, removal and disposal of the existing material, but especially the construction of a new design would be problematic from a ecological point of view. That is why circular design is one of the main starting points for designing the area in question.
In the introductory part, the theoretical starting points are described and the area is presented. In the project part, the management strategy of the considered area is set, the design principles (language) are defined and examples of possible designs are shown.
