In casting for the automotive industry, the steel bushing is the one with which we have problems in processing, as the durability of the tool is low. The bushing itself has a wide range of hardness ranging from 230 BHN to 280 BHN. This large area greatly affects the durability of the tool, as the bushings can be of lower hardness at one moment and higher at the next, so the durability of the tool fluctuates a lot. We were also limited by the parameters due to the large diameter of the tool, which simultaneously processes Φ68 and Φ223, between which there is a narrow axial tolerance. Due to these problems, it was necessary to find new technological solutions, with which we achieved a longer durability of the tool, reduced the need to intervene in the machine, which increased the working hours of the machine and savings on tools. Before the technological changes, the tool achieved a maximum of 108 processing cycles, but now it can achieve a maximum of 378. With these improvements, we save EUR 92.66 per year in this operation.
