Abstract
Raziskala sem, kakšne izkušnje so imeli študenti in študentke Pedagoške fakultete Univerze v Ljubljani z branjem v predšolskem obdobju.

Title:Views of Students at the Faculty of Education in Ljubljana on the Role of Reading in the Preschool Period
Abstract:
In my diploma thesis, Views of Students at the Faculty of Education in Ljubljana on the Role of Reading in the Preschool Period, I have examined whether reading in preschool had an impact on attitudes towards reading and books later in life. The research involve students of the Faculty of Education who recorded their childhood reading experiences in a questionnaire and relate them to their current attitudes towards books. In the theoretical part of the diploma thesis I have focused on reading as a communicative activity; I described why reading is important and how adults should read to children; what children learn from reading and how they build their knowledge. I examined the factors that influence parents' children's reading. I have also described how to approach and read books to a child whose Slovene is a second language and what is the role of parents and kindergarten teachers in this. In the empirical part, I have presented the data that I had collected through an online questionnaire. I investigated what experiences the students of the Faculty of Education in Ljubljana had with reading in the pre-school period. I tried to get information about the reasons why some parents did not read in the pre-school period, whether it was related to lack of time, lack of interest or whether Slovene was not the mother language of the parents. I asked whether students think that the activity of reading in their childhood has influenced the attitudes they have towards books and reading now that they are adults. I have also checked how often they read themselves. The research has shown that students whose parents did read to them in preschool, like to read books in their adulthood. Some of respondents like to read, although their parents didn´t read to them, when they were children. Parents didn´t read to their children mainly because of lack of time, lack of interest or whether Slovene was not the mother language of the parents.
