Abstract

Title:
Expressing non-binary identities in Slovene
Abstract:
This thesis addresses language that can be used to express non-binary gender identities in Slovene. I defined the limits of Slovene in this respect in comparison to other Slavic and non-Slavic languages and described some ways in which English, Polish and Croatian languages address this issue. The research done on this topic in Slovene linguistics so far is closely connected to the topic of gender-neutral language. Two interviews with Slovene-speaking non-binary people were conducted to explore more personal perspectives of this topic. The thesis also explores language used in Slovene media to refer to non-binary people.
