The purpose of this diploma thesis is to present modern research trends in the study of maritime archaeology of the eastern Adriatic coast, ranging from prehistoric times to late antiquity. The thesis is divided into two parts. The first part provides a geographical outline of the eastern Adriatic coast and a presentation of modern maritime archaeology. It also touches upon the methodological procedures of underwater research, research trends, and methods of documenting such sites, and offers an outline of the history of underwater or maritime archaeological research in the area along the eastern Adriatic coast, which has been divided into several geographical areas. For each of these areas, the important archaeologists, along with the archaeological finds and sites that they researched, are mentioned. The second part focuses on sea lanes and navigation, with an emphasis on ancient shipwrecks and ports. Similarly to the first part, ancient shipwrecks are discussed by area as well. Finally, the thesis focuses on selected shipwrecks and ports and provides additional information on them.
