The master's thesis deals with the spatial problem of degraded port cities and its impact on the immediate and wider sur- roundings of the cities in the case of Rijeka in Croatia. The planned solution is based on the revitalization of the area, in which the ex- isting buildings are saved, and the arrangement is adjusted in such a way that the identity of the city and the area is not lost, the more this new purpose, which will express the identity more. The task deals with the area located in the southeastern part of the narrow center of the city of Rijeka, known as the Delta. In the past, the area served as part of a port terminal for maritime traffic, but today it is mostly abandoned and the area is divided into three parts; the northern part where the public parking lot is currently located, the middle part in which there are mostly buildings or halls which are mostly abandoned and the southern part where today the water supply and sewage company is located. As a whole, the area is used as a large area of nothingness, which puts a negative imprint on the area as well as on the city and lowers its quality. The theoretical framework of the assignment deals with approaches to the planning and revitalization of port cities with examples of good arrangements in cities that had the same problem. In the analyzes of the area, shortcomings and potentials are identified, which will be used in the new reorganization of the area under consideration. The conceptual urban design presents the spatial combination of existing buildings with a new purpose and the revival of a degraded area into green and public areas with a large program. The result is an attractive space with many different programs and the revitalization of the area with a focus on preserving the identities of the cities. The spatial connection is divided into three areas which are con-nected to the existing and new circular and central promenades which connect the area. The new planned building is coordinated with the existing buildings and is complemented by the existing building pattern of the area and the surrounding area. As part of the arrangement, new access points to the area and new programs with landscaped surroundings intended for visitors are being designed. The design represents the transformation of the southern parking lot into a botanical garden with a multipurpose open space, the northern part with buildings intended for the public, and the conversion of the water and sewerage company into a part of the area
with water and sports activities.
