The countries are intertwined both geographically and politically, which means that a security crisis in one country also provokes instability in the rest of the countries and the wider region. The security challenges that destabilize the region are migration, crime, epidemiological problems and cyber threats. Challenges related to unresolved national and historical political issues are still a pressing problem in the areas of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo. The international community needs to pay special attention to this area to prevent a further escalation of conflicts. Here, the key to success is for all countries to become members of key international organizations, such as the EU, in the first place, which would ensure the improvement of political and economic relations between countries, and the countries would also gain confidence and a more equivalent position in the international community.
