The first part is composed of a short description of the various types of alternative education
which also encompasses democratic education. Following is a chapter which lists the diverse
concepts of democracy and presents where democratic, free schools fit in (Summerhill, Sudbury
Valley School, Hadera, Democratic school Sofia etc.). Third chapter starts with a description
of the principles of a democratic school and education then continues with a focus on the three
most popular democratic schools and a characterization of their operation and their views on
education of kids and adolescents. The final chapter of the theoretical section looks into the
possibility of founding a democratic school in Slovenia.
The empirical section contains my description of the operation and philosophy of the
democratic school of Sofia with the focus on the role of a teacher from the perspective of other
school employees. Record came to be as a result of many talks with the employees of the school
and the principal of the school Magi Blagoeva during my six months practical training at the
Democratic school Sofia in the school year 2019/2020.
