An isometric muscle contraction is a contraction of the skeletal muscle fibers without external movement of the joint. The goal of the master’s thesis is to evaluate the usefulness of isometric strength training (IST) in the training and rehabilitation process as well as present the practical guidelines for its use.
In the first part of the thesis, we present the history of isometric strength training as well as the different types of isometric contractions. The main part covers the different uses of IST and the theoretical background of its effects on the human body. Finally, we present practical guidelines for the use of IST when striving for different adaptations.
The master's thesis with its precisely presented subject matter can be useful for kinesiologists and coaches as well as physiotherapists as a guide to use IST in their treatment of athletes and/or patients.
