Abstract

Title:Ibn Kḫaldūn's Philosophy of History
Abstract:
The following thesis deals with the philosophy of history of the Islamic philosopher Ibn Kḫaldūn, which he presented in his most famous work Muqaddima. In the first part, with a presentation of the author's life, which strongly influenced his philosophy and an analysis of the key concept of solidarity (aṣabīya), this paper presents the historical and intellectual context in which the author lived and worked. The relationship of Kḫaldūn's philosophy to Islamic theology, Islamic law and Islamic tradition is also explained. In the second part, by placing the mentioned key concept of Kḫaldūn's philosophy of solidarity in the context of theory of history, follows the presentation of his cyclical theory of history, which is based on the antagonism between two fundamental social groups: nomadic inhabitants and permanently settled inhabitants.
