In Slovenia, strawberries are grown mainly in tunnels on ridges using single or double row systems. We practice both annual and biennial cultivation. The problem is the impoverishment of virgin soils, which can lead to proliferation of harmful soil organisms. The aim of this work was to review the literature on soil regeneration, identify the available methods and evaluate their impact. As European and Slovenian regulations on the use of chemical preparations and phytopharmaceuticals become more stringent, we are exploring new approaches to soil preparation and strawberry cultivation. The two most widely used methods for soil preparation are soil solarization and the addition of Trichoderma fungi. Both methods are as effective as fumigation. We presented a strawberry cultivation plan using the example of a small farm, where the availability of new land for technologically intensive strawberry production is not always guaranteed.
