Engagement at work affects an individual's work efficiency, personal growth,
professional development, job satisfaction and other work-related constructs. The
purpose of the diploma thesis was, with the help of data analysis, to offer an insight
into the engagement of teachers, which will help teachers and their supervisors in
further planning of the work process and professional and personal development.
Teachers' work engagement was measured using The Engaged teachers scale (ETS;
Klassen, Yerdelen and Durksen, 2013). Demographic data on the participant (gender,
age, professional title) were also obtained. Teachers from four primary schools in
Slovenia participated in the research. 74 teachers were included in the research.
The results of the research showed that teachers are highly engaged in their work. The
research found that there are no significant differences between the sexes in the field
of commitment to work, except in the field of social commitment to students (female
teachers show a higher level of commitment). The results showed that the teacher's
age is positively related to his commitment to work, but the connection is not
statistically significant. The teacher's professional title is statistically significantly
positively related to his commitment to work.
The diploma work represents one of the few studies of the commitment of teachers in
Slovenia. Data analysis can be helpful for further research in this area. Suggestions
for improving work engagement can serve teachers and principals as a basis for
improving the current engagement of teachers in primary schools.
